Art Speak – Delivering an Artist Talk
With Ivan Jurakic

Saturday February 19, 12:00 – 1:30pm

Artist/curator Ivan Jurakic will lead participants through the basic steps
of delivering an artist talk. In this 90-minute session Ivan will discuss
his approach to speaking about his own artwork and will provide
participants with a number of different methods and approaches to use when
speaking about their own bodies of work.

Ivan Jurakic holds a BFA in Fine Art from the University of Guelph and an
MFA from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has shown his
work at the McMaster Museum of Art, The Art Gallery of Hamilton, the
Arcardia University Art Gallery in Philadelphia and has recently shown his
work in the Beyond/In Western New York annual exhibition as a member of
the TH&B collective. Ivan is currently the Director/Curator of the
University of Waterloo Art Gallery.

About the artists

Peter Kingstone holds a BA in Philosophy and Cultural Studies from Trent University and an MFA in video from York University. He has shown his work in solo exhibitions at Ace Art in Winnipeg, the Beaverbrook Art Gallery, Gallery TPW and the Ministry of Casual Living, in group exhibitions at Modern Fuel (Kingstone, ON), A Space Gallery and Scotiabank Nuit Blanche. Kingstone has also screened his work at festivals throughout Canada and the US including Pleasure Dome (Toronto), the Pittsburgh International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, the Inside/Out Film Festival (Toronto) and the Nashville Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. Kingstone has received grants from the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Arts Council and the Canada Council for the Arts. The artist is represented by Para Nadimi Gallery in Toronto.

Daryl Vocat holds a BFA from the University of Regina and an MFA from York University. He has shown his work in solo exhibitions across Canada at Art Metropole (Toronto), Malsapina Printmakers Society (Vancouver, BC) and Latitude 53 (Edmonton, AB) and in group exhibitions in Hanmi Photograph Museum (Seoul, Korea), Kunstraum Wohlleb (Vienna, Austria) and 5+5 Gallery (Brooklyn, NY). His work has appeared in publications such as Fuse, Printmaking at the Edge, YYZine and the Salivation Army Black Book and is held by the BMO Corporate Art Collection, the Special Collections Department of the University of Saskatchewan Library and the National Gallery of Canada Library & Archives. Sissies and Psychopaths will mark the first time that the artist has exhibited his work in Hamilton.
