COLLAGRAPHS
6 Week Course
MONDAYS: Oct 11 to Nov 15

Instructor: Delio Delgado
This course is designed for any level of printmaker. Participants will create a printing matrix using cardboard or wood, and then apply paint, glue, leaves, fabric and other materials to create an interesting surface that will then be printed on an etching press.
MULTIMEDIA 6 Week Course

Instructor: Victoria Alstein
Participants will create a body of prints that vary in style, while maintaining a sense of repetition that one achieves through printmaking. Exploring solar etching, relief, and stencilling, students will learn how to combine printing techniques with drawing and collage to create mixed media images.

Intaglio processes may be considered the most versatile of printmaking methods, producing a wide range of effects. Students will learn how to line etch, use hard/soft ground, aquatint and the direct techniques of drypoint and engraving.

Exploring the oldest form of printmaking, this course will introduce students to the wonders of relief printing. From the ease of linoleum blocks to the expressive nature of the woodcut, students will be introduced to cutting tools, techniques, and press operation.

This drawing course will allow students to explore the anatomy of male and female models. Throughout the four classes we will be learning about proportions and the structure of the human body. Students will also learn how to place the figure within an image in order to create a balanced composition, as well as developing the use of light and shade.

With enough interest, The Print Studio will happily design a workshop that suits your needs. All workshops are open to both members and non-members; however, members pay reduced rates and depending on the workshop will receive free computer time in the Digital Studio.
DIGITAL LAB WORKSHOP REGISTRATION POLICY
WORKSHOP REGISTRATION is on a first come, first served basis. Registration is confirmed only upon payment in FULL.
Participants who cancel up to 3 business days prior to workshop date will receive a FULL REFUND. NO REFUNDS will be given for CANCELLATIONS made with less than 3 business days notice.
Workshop Dates & Times occasionally change. Participants will be notified of any schedule changes or cancellations by telephone or email.
Print Studio Members, who have taken any workshop that includes free computer time, must book and use their time in the Digital Lab within one month following the completion of the course. After this time the hours will become forfeit.

Learn about the legal side of the digital image and art making process. Whether you are a musician, a photographer, a writer, a media artist, a printmaker or a designer this issue affects us all. We’ll be discussing the rights of the artists and how to protect your work. We’ll look at true case studies and what happens in real life practice. Explore the many issues involved in copyright law and look at some of the emerging alternatives like creative commons.
Find out what the Canadian government’s current policy and stand is on digital protection and security. Take a look at issues of consent, release forms and artist contracts. Find out what others are trying to get away with and what you cannot.

Are you looking to make some big big big digital prints? If so, then this is the course to get you started. Learn about colour proofing, software settings, colour management and calibration along with image resolution, dpi and dpp. Find out how to load and use the Epson 4480 Printer and the HP Design Inkjet 44” large format printer. Explore the different material you can print on from canvas and adhesive vinyl to photo rag paper.
Prerequisite – Students should have a working knowledge of Macintosh OSX and some experience working with digital images would be helpful.

This workshop is a follow-up to our “Intro to Adobe Photoshop for Artist” program and is designed for anyone interested in expanding their knowl- edge and skills of working with digital images. We’ll be exploring more complex approaches to using this powerful program. Students will learn the advanced methods of image manipulation, filters and effects while working with 3D objects, text and multiple groups and layers. Learn how to retouch and repair damaged images, create custom masks and vector objects. On the last day students will output their final project on the HP 44” oversize printer. Homework assignments and projects
will be given throughout the duration of this course. Prerequisite – Basic Mac computer skills, intro to Adobe Illustrator (Level 1) or Minimum 1 year of Mac experience and

This is a start to finish workshop and will teach you everything you need to know about pho- tographing your artwork and preparing it to be submitted to a gallery or a granting body. We’ll start in the morning by looking at digital cam- eras and lighting techniques for photographing works of art. Then later in the day we will be working on the computer and learning how to import your digital images. We’ll adjust the colours and contrast and prepare the files for either a CD-ROM, PDF
file, print or for use on the web.

Victoria Alstein Victoria Alstein is a Hamilton based artist who graduated from the studio arts program at McMaster University.
Her work has been displayed throughout Hamilton, Toronto, and more recently, out of province. She focuses on mixed media work combining contemporary printmaking techniques with drawing and painting.
Paul Antic Paul has been a volunteer at the Print Studio from its inception. While at university he focused on lithography and etching. Most Recently, he has worked with silkscreening and woodcuts. Paul's art focuses mainly on daydream imagery and abstract images, while his curatorial work concentrates on creating shows in which artist and viewer wish to engage either through readymade found objects as medium or through popular culture.
Wesley Bates Wesley Bates is a freelance illustrator and wood engraver who lives and works in Clifford Ontario. Bates has illustrated W.O. Mitchell’s The Black Bonspiel of Willie MacCrimmon, Stuart Mclean’s Vinyl Café Stories, Timothy Findley’s From Stone Orchard, and in 1994 The Point of the Graver, a collection of Bates’ work with biographical notes, published by Porcupine’s Quill. Wesley is a member of the Wood Engraver’s Network, The Loving Society of Letter press Printers, The Canadian Bookbinders and Book Artists Guild and the Ontario Society of Artists.

Mark Byk Mark Byk is a visual artist, printmaker and graphic designer. He has
exhibited work throughout North America, including Santa Monica, New
York and Toronto. His work has also been internationally recognized
and published in art books, newspapers, magazines and websites.
Robert Creighton Robert Creighton lives in his studio in Lynden, Ontario. He is a master printer trained in Canada and the United Kingdom. He graduated from Humber College in 1971 with a Diploma in Graphic Arts, McMaster University in 1977 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art and Art History, The Edinburgh College of Art with a Post-Graduate Diploma from the School of Painting and Drawing and the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Education Degree.
He exhibits internationally and is included in public and private collections in Canada, Europe, the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia.
Delio Delgado Delio Delgado is a visual artist living in Hamilton,Ontario. He holds a Diploma in interdisciplinary studies from Altos de Chavon the School of Design, and a BFA in painting from The National School of Fine Arts of the Dominican Republic.
Eric Euler Eric Euler is a print/painting based artist who currently lives in downtown Toronto. He graduated from The Ontario College of Art & Design in May 2009 with a BFA in Printmaking. His artwork is a chaotic mosaic of apocalyptic transcendence. He currently works as a custom printer and teacher's assistant at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
Julio Ferrer Julio Ferrer originated out of cuba and brought his skill and success to Canada in 2006. He graduated from the National School of Fine Arts in Cuba and received numerous awards for his mastery of line and colour.
Elizabeth Forrest After obtaining a liberal arts and an education degree in Toronto,
Elizabeth studied printmaking at the Ontario College of Art and
Design, graduating with honours. She later taught printmaking at OCAD
for seven years. In 1988 she went to Japan to study Japanese woodblock or mokuhanga under Akira Kurosaki, and stayed there for 11 years, developing her work and actively exhibiting in Japan and in Toronto.
Recent exhibitions include Canadian Woodblock Prints, Montreal; The
Washi Summit, Toronto, and WATER WOOD PAPER: Mokuhanga, at the Japan
Foundation Toronto. Her work is represented in a number of private and public collections.
Donna Ibing
A Graduate of the Ontario College of Art in 1971, Donna has since become one of Ontario's leading artists in painting and printmaking. Her work has been shown in most major citys across Canada including Vancouver, Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto. Donna's trademark printmaking work is achieved primarily with her woodcut technique.
Alison Judd
Alison Judd is a visual artist currently living in Guelph, Ontario. She holds a Diploma in Interdisciplinary Studies, a BFA in Print Media, and a MFA in Print Media. Her installation and print works have been exhibited in many places around the world. She currently teaches printmaking at the University of Guelph and the Ontario College of Art and Design.
Paula Krochak Paula Krochak is a Hamilton based printmaker and arts facilitator. She graduated from OCAD University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Fine Art in Printmaking.
She is currently working at The Print Studio as the Communications Co-ordinator and as a Studio Assistant in the Paradox of the Vocation programming at the JCC. She also works as an Artist Instructor for the Children and Youth programming at the Art Gallery of Hamilton.
Matt McInnes Matt McInnes is a Hamilton based printmaker. He graduated from The Ontario
College of Art and Design in 2001, with a diploma in Fine Art, and a focus
in printmaking. From 2002 – 2003, Matt worked out of the printmaking

of the Print Studio, and was the recipient of the 2007 Emerging Printmaker
Scholarship awarded by The Print Studio. As the current Print Studio education
coordinator, McInnes creates and facilitates print based workshops with
primary and secondary school students in the Hamilton region.
Christopher McLeod Christopher McLeod is an edgy Hamilton photographer who works primarily as a location photographer, shooting in large format film, medium format and digital. He creates ethereal images of subjects ranging from flora and landscapes to portraits. He has shot in locations ranging from British Columbia to Cape Breton and has given numberous lectures out of the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Todd Murray Todd Murray is a local artistic photographer. He supports new photo enthusiasts and efforts to broaden their potential in creating community partnerships with other local artists and projects.
Brian Musson Brian holds a B.A. (Fine Art) from the University of Guelph and a P.G.D.D.P. from Edinburgh College of Art. Musson, a practising artist, has shown extensively. He has worked as a Master Printer (New Leaf Editions, Vancouver), and was, prior to moving East, Head of Printmaking at Kwantlen University College, Surrey, B.C. He is currently an adjunct professor in the faculty of Architecture at the University of Waterloo.
Martin Renters Martin Renters is a Hamilton based artist and photographer. He plays an active role in the Hamilton Camera Club.Martin was the lead technical consultant in the installation of the brand new, innovative digital studio at The Print Studio.
